Incentive Travel In Riga

Last week at Seven Events Events we were lucky enough to do a site visit in the Latvian capital and we loved what we saw!  Not the most obvious or popular destination for an incentive from the UK, but we’re not sure why as Riga and its surrounding areas seemed to have a bit of everything.

The medieval old town is full of a range of bars and restaurants, all housed within brightly coloured art- nouveau styled buildings along pedestrianised cobbled streets.  There’s a picturesque canal with beautiful bridges flowing through the centre of town with many parks dotted around the city giving it plenty of green space.

The Central Market is something not to be missed, with numerous halls of meats, fish, vegetables, not forgetting the mountains of various pickles on offer to try.

On the other side of the Daugava River there’s a complete juxtaposition to the old town, as the buildings are very much still in keeping with the Soviet style from the 80s, creating a feeling of stepping back in time.

Just outside of the city through the countryside, there is an old Soviet underground bunker, where you can tour and learn about where the government used to hide during a possible attack.

Further outside of Riga is a place called Sigulda, known as the “Latvian Switzerland” filled with different options for more high adrenaline activities.

A ski resort in Winter and in Summer there’s the bobsleigh track, aerodium, balloon flights, horse riding and even caves to explore.  In the other direction and only a 30-minute drive from Riga is Jurmala, with its white sandy beach that stretches along the Baltic sea.  During the summer months, the temperature can reach up to 25 degrees, more than enough for a sun tan!

Here’s a few of our favourite photos from the trip.
