GP Ice Race 2020

GP Ice Race 2020

Back in 1928, riderless horses pulled skiers across the frozen lake in Zell Am See at maximum speed and from this, the sport of skijoring is born! a decade later, the adrenaline rush amps up with participants using motorised vehicles including motorcycles of all classes to take part. The infamous race takes place annually and in 1957, over 5,000 visitors flocked to the Austrian city to watch the race take place.

Due to several years of extreme snowfall and accidents near the lake, the race was cancelled in 1974 however, to the delight of the locals, has been revived 45 years later by Ferdinand Porsche and Vincent Greger. The race has now been moved to Zell Am See airport and will celebrate it’s second birthday on the 1st and 2nd February 2020.

8,000 excited visitors are expected to attend the race this year, all eager to watch the show drives, qualification laps and awards ceremonies, not forgetting the pit lane night which gives visitors, drivers and mechanics a chance to mix and mingle and enjoy a few locally brewed beers!

We can’t wait to host our client’s incentive programme in Zell Am See this year – we’re confident they’ll love the unique atmosphere that the GP Ice Race brings!
