29 Jul belmond pullman train with ollie dabbous and hendonism wines
last week we were lucky enough to be invited on the belmond pullman train for an exquisite dinner hosted by celebrity chef ollie dabbous paired with wines selected by the expert team of hedonism wines!
on arrival at victoria station we headed to platform 2 to meet outside the pullman lounge. once the train had pulled into the platform we all got on board. we were shown to our seats in the beautiful phoenix carriage. the phoenix carriage was burnt in 1936 and then rebuilt in 1952 and give the appropriate name of phoenix (rising from the ashes).
as we made our way out of victoria station to embark on our round trip through the north downs and guilford, we all had a look at the amazing five course tasting menu we were about to enjoy!
the evening started with a delicious range of canapes and a glass of veuve clicquot rose. after this we were entertained by a magician who was outstanding! we then enjoyed a refreshing watermelon gazpacho followed by a fig leaf focaccia. hedonism wine had paired these courses with a roebuck estates classic curvee which went very well.
following on from these courses we enjoyed a scallop dish, which was a lot of people’s favourite! then we were on to main course of fillet of beef which was cooked perfectly and paired with a delicious red wine. after this we went of a tour of another carriage. each carriage is decorated differently and has it’s own unique story! the sun had now set and it was time for the final 3 courses. we enjoyed a wonderful selection of cheese, followed by an insanely yummy cherry trifle and finishing with coffee and caneles. as we made out way back into victoria station the chef, olli dabbous made his way through the carriage to talk to all guests!
a massive thank you to belmond for inviting us on this unforgettable experience.
