Harry Potter: A History of Magic
Here in the SevenEvents office we are all still waiting for our admittance letters to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. We may be way past the age of 11 but we are all still secretly holding our breath in hope that Royal Mail just made a lengthy mistake and they’ll arrive any day now!!
So if like us you’re Potter nuts you will be excited to know that the British library are holding an exhibition, modelling each room around a Hogwarts subject. Just don’t fall asleep in the Divination room.
This isn’t any old exhibition though, this is a celebration of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone turning 20! What a shocker. Yes, the global phenomenon that is the Boy Who Lived is officially two decades old.
They will unveil rare books, manuscripts and magical objects from the British Library’s collection, capturing the traditions of folklore and magic which are at the heart of the Harry Potter stories. Marvel at original drafts and drawings by J.K. Rowling and illustrator Jim Kay, both on display for the first time.
See the gargantuan 16th-century Ripley Scroll that explains how to create a Philosopher’s Stone. Gaze at Sirius in the night sky as imagined by medieval astronomers. Encounter hand-coloured pictures of dragons, unicorns and a phoenix rising from the flames.
