Hotel Crushes

Hotel Crushes

Obviously being in the events industry the Seven Events team have seen hundreds of hotels, so it takes something pretty great to stand out. You have all the luxury hotels such as The Savoy and The Dorchester, and course you cannot fault their grandeur and beauty but we also have the hidden smaller hotels that are often forgotten about. Today I was lucky enough to see two new hotels – and one of them really hit a heart string for me.

First stop was the all new Mondrain London. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the design inside. Tom Dixon truly has worked his copper magic. There are beautiful copper lamps, a fabulous copper ‘hull’ wall (a wall entirely made from copper to emulate a ship’s hull – It took a whole year to create!) and a gorgeous marble cocktail bar made from one huge piece of marble stone. Also the rooftop bar is pretty amazing, however there are a few things that a just plain annoying.

First the hotel has no signage so like me you’ll probably walk past it 3 times before you realise you are in fact in the right place. Secondly, you can’t just open its foyer doors you have to press a button – this is not only lazy, but also so unnecessary and irritating. Finally, although I appreciate the ship theme which does work well I don’t love the dark corridors, I do need to see the room numbers after all! Overall the Mondrain impresses and will impress you so come on Mondrain just make it a little more user friendly!

Next stop is where I found my new hotel crush. The new Firmdale hotel; Ham Yard. I’m almost rendered speechless. No, it doesn’t have massive event spaces but it does have plenty of colour and fun! It’s a fabulous mix of old and new. No two rooms are the same boring contemporary décor, every room has its own character and atmosphere. There’s a wonderful large terrace which would be perfect for any summer shin-dig and there is a variety of funky meeting rooms (large enough for a 120 reception) and all with individual themes and bright lighting.

The wow factor has to be the Ham Yard’s bowling alley. With its two 8 man alleys, massive cocktail bar and dance floor it’s an event area that caters for all. Splashes of bright colour keeps it quirky but not invasive. With its 300 strong reception capacity it will certainly be a hot favourite this party season. I know I’m already in love.
