07 Jun Kitchen Table
Tucked away behind BubbleDogs on Charlotte street is an unbelievable Michelin star dining experience, that I would highly recommend; Kitchen table. It’s a restaurant within a restaurant that books up 3 months in advance. Upon entering Bubbledogs you will be asked for your reservation name and then asked to wait in BubbleDogs until seated. BubbleDogs is a gourmet hot dog and champagne restaurant. I would suggest having a glass of their home brand champagne while waiting – it’s delicious!
The two restaurants are separated by an intriguing velvet curtain. You will be seated in the order you arrive so after waiting patiently for our turn, we were greeted by the head waitress who took us behind the curtain. We were seated at a square, stainless-steel horseshoe table, round the heart of the kitchen, with the cookers along the back wall. Each evening has two sittings one at 6pm and the other at 7.30pm each sitting has only 10-12 people so it a very intimate experience. The seating’s do overlap each other as the dinner will last around 3 hours.
James Knappett prepares, cooks and serves a daily changing menu of meticulously sourced and foraged British ingredients. I was expecting 12 courses but as we sat down the menu was presented to us and there were an outstanding 16 courses! with the option to purchase two more. The menu only states the main ingredient they are using, once the dish has been prepared and cooked in front of you, James will explain exactly what ingredients have been used. My highlights were the Scallop, Lamb and Elderflower!
I would also recommend purchasing the wine flight. You will get to try around 8 beautifully paired wines all chosen by Sommelier Sandia Chang. At the end of the evening I highly recommend trying their homegrown rhubarb vodka – its amazing!
Overall this is a pricey dining experience but completely worth it for a special occasion!
