As Christmas is quickly approaching, there’s nothing better to do than marvel in all of its festive glory. Now it’s officially December, we can and will get excited about the merry season that is finally upon us.
There are several things to do in London year which fully embrace the Christmas spirit and really get you in the mood for this winter holiday – These include, going to a festive market and sipping on some mulled wine, visiting the iconic Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, visiting the many themed pop up bars, tasting the culinary delights of restaurants Christmas inspired menus, catching a Christmassy show at the theatre, squeezing in some last minute shopping or partaking in carol services.
There’s already a long list of things to do in London this season but there’s one thing that must be included and that’s a skate on one of London’s many ice rinks.
It’s a fabulous experience gliding over the ice when it’s cold, all wrapped up warm admiring the beautiful twinkly lights and Christmas trees. This is a great activity that can be done with friends, family and loved ones.

The national history museum. This has a truly beautiful backdrop of the impressive building, a row of trees just dripping in fairy lights and a majestic Christmas tree in the middle of the ice. All of these elements help to make this London’s most enchanting ice-rink.
The grand 18th-century courtyard at Somerset House is also a stunning location for a session on the ice this winter. No matter how unimpressive your skating skills are a trip to this 900-square-metre outdoor rink will look the very definition of festive fun.
Lastly, located in the building’s dry moat, the Tower of London’s ice rink offers a grand historical setting for seasonal skating sessions, along with views of London’s ancient fortress.
