03 Dec Give back with these Sustainable London Venues
There are so many good things about the Good Hotel. Based over at Royal Victoria Docks, the hotel is a profit for non-profit business meaning that it re-invests all its profits. Their four main philosophies are; Local, Upcycling, People & Sustainability.
They pride themselves on working with local businesses to reduce their carbon footprint and get involved with local communities. For example, lots of their wooden furnishings are handcrafted by local suppliers made from the wood from the hotel’s building before its renovation. Sourcing solutions that combine being eco-friendly and durable, they save energy by installing an integrated natural ventilation and water reclamation system.
Also at Victoria Dock, the Crystal is one of the world’s most sustainable venues. Set up as an initiative by Siemens, they host the world’s largest exhibition on the future of cities and is the only building in the world to have been awarded the highest certifications in both the BREEAM & LEED schemes. 100% of their heat sources are natural, meaning that they pay nothing for their heating bill and they use state of the art technology to ensure all systems are efficient and eco-friendly.
The Lookout at Hyde Park
Situated within the beautiful gardens of Hyde Park, the venue has been designed to give back to its surroundings with sustainable features such as an ecological pond, natural sculpture, plants and wildlife as well as the community as all proceeds of hiring the venue go towards their chosen charities within the areas of heritage, education, wellbeing and nature.
ORTUS Learning & Events
Over in South London, ORTUS has been making waves with their Green initiative. Initially built as a training, meeting and events venue for the NHS, they now offer their spaces to everyone and the team have worked hard to build their eco-credentials – including solar panels & plenty of windows & natural daylight throughout (so they can leave the lights off for longer) meaning that they have been awarded BREEAM ‘excellent’ status.
