York: A Principal Location
If you are looking for a weekend getaway within the UK, then look no further than the city of York. This beautiful city presents tourists with a rich heritage, stunning architecture and all the amenities of London without the infamous rat race, almost the perfect pace of life.
Mere steps away from the train station is the Principal York, formally the Royal York hotel. Some of you might remember it as a Principal Hayley, forget everything you remember, with a recent refurb from the award-winning architect Goddard Littlefair it really is a spectacular location. Blending the grandeur of late-Victorian architecture with the comforts of modern living, it is the perfect base from which to discover the historic city of York.
Bedrooms
With 155, elegant, comfortable bedroom and suites, it is by no means inconsiderable in size, yet it still retains a personable service, ensuring you never feel like you are just in a big hotel. Each room is set in balanced, neutral tones; incredibly welcoming and most importantly large comfortable beds!
Let’s not get us started on the bathrooms, beautifully decorated, large bath tubs, sensational showers, one might think it has been purposefully designed to be “instagrammable”, a noticeable theme throughout the hotel, everything from the drawing room, the stairwells and even the reception area, there is plenty of choice when thinking of your next Instagram post.
Refectory Kitchen & Terrace
Celebrating the best ingredients from York and the surrounding countryside, the onsite restaurant provides a menu full of traditional, delicious, British classics, in a fantastic setting. Choose from dishes such as Short rib mac ‘n’ Swaledale cheese and R&J Butchers venison haunch with parsnip and honey-glazed beetroot, followed by Yorkshire Parkin and a Dark chocolate cheesecake with pistachio crumb and steeped blackberries. A restaurant worth frequenting, regardless of whether you are staying at the hotel. It gets better, adjacent to the restaurant is fantastic bar, providing an ambient location to enjoy delicious cocktails, a glass of wine or a local craft beer.
We can’t talk about food without mentioning everyone’s favourite reason for staying at a hotel (or at least ours), the breakfast. Continuing the theme, they really don’t let you down, lots of options, regardless of your requirements almost demanding that you go back for seconds.
Our Verdict
